Sports Authority of Indonesia (KONI) take Risk FIFA Sanction in intervention PSSI.

Like something out of a libertarian movie script, government intervention appears poised to only make Indonesia’s football crisis worse.

With its attempts to mediate the dispute stymied, the National Sports Committee (KONI) has threatened to take over the embattled Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) if it fails to restore order by this weekend.

“KONI is the sports authority in the country and we have a duty to make sure sports development, including football, runs smoothly,” KONI chairman Tono Suratman said after meeting with PSSI leaders and the opposition Indonesian Football Savior Committee (KPSI) in Jakarta on Thursday.

“We’ve been encouraging the PSSI and KPSI to reconcile and work together to improve Indonesian football. However, if they fail to do that, we have to save the sport by taking over the PSSI.”
